There are a lot of vids of fat men on youtube, but most show either mocking or sophomoric humor, or are footage from Jerry Springer shows. Those looking for grace or beauty have to look far and hard. However, [livejournal.com profile] wabearchub (who also makes extraordinary watercolor self-portraits, which I wrote about here), posted this appealing video. It embodies the "poetry in motion" which is Tai Chi, and which especially comes to the fore when the practitioner is a fat man.

Large men in Tai Chi are nothing new. Traditional masters Wang Shujin (1905-1981) and Yang Cheng-Fu (1883-1936) were both substantial, with Cheng-fu weighing about 280 lbs in later life. I also found some video clips of master teacher Bruce Frantzis. Tiger and Dragon captures his slow, graceful movements, while in Bagua Yin, he strides and rolls across the room radiating powerful, fluid energy.
