From Andrew Sullivan, this Dutch ad which featured a progressively stripping fat man. Unlike Andrew, though, we don't need "reassurance" that he didn't take it to the limit. Because that would have been awesome. Unfortunately the whole theme of the ad is that the viewer *wants* the model to stop stripping.

These are things of beauty and joys forever.

Love the expressions on his face, too, especially the 2nd and last ones.

I know! It made me so sad to see the negative cast of the ad campaign. I was like, all, MOAR PLEEZ!!1!

If they try this somewhere else, maybe we can all chip in to purchase the advert space for the next installments in the sequence instead...?

Honestly, any big and tall men's stores that can hire the same model? Have him wearing a nicer shirt and pair of pants? Possibly have him model a tuxedo?

Change the ad to something for nice clothing in large men's sizes and show large men looking proud in what they are wearing.

I think this only reminds me how much I hate that modern fashion means people wear their pants below the ventre. :( Everyone looks better with trousers at the actual waist, especially zaftig men.

Especially with suits and other formal dress-wear. Suspenders and above-the-waist are the way to go!

Absolutely. It's difficult to try and hide one's feminine body shape and pass as male, but if I have to choose between well-fitting clothes and looking male I will choose in favour of sartorial bliss every time, and other people's ideas about how I must prove my gender be damned!

I long--LONG--to dress my husband in a proper-fitting suit. He himself is a large fellow, even when he hits his target weight he will still be built like a strapping highland lad. *fans himself*

The campaign with its implied fat hatred is awful, but the pictures are a delight!

I know. Sometimes I get tired of "crumbs," you know? I want the whole pie - IOW an ad campaign, or a movie, something like that where the fat guy is portrayed as *sexy* and *gorgeous.*

This is why I write, basically--because I'm tired of the lack of variety in stories, the fact that everyone is thin, everyone is white, everyone is straight, cis, etc etc etc. I can't find something I want to read--so I write it.

the biggest problem I have with this is that it's intended to evoke a negative reaction in people. This is a disturbing trend in advertising that my partners and I have noticed. For instance Subway has a commercial where a large man is eating a berger while lying in a hammock, then it breaks. Sorry for the rant but it's a pet peeve of mine..

hate that we're supposed to be disgusted by the guy.
I'm old enough to remember a horrible "joke" poster, which showed thin blond girl (Farrah Fawcett type, probably) with little arrows pointing to different parts of her body, saying how fab she was, smelt wonderful, etc., and then a larger girl with the same arrows saying ugly negative things.
I always wondered why the girl did such a humiliating poster. she was fine in looks but was posed badly, and the poster was an affront to all decency.

Hey meninfull :) I sent you an email to the gmail address asking if you'd be interested in being interviewed for the next issue of Filament about loving fat guys. Not sure if you got it. Would be rocking to hear back from you as soon as you can, either way.

Sorry, I didn't check my e-mail in a very timely fashion. You've probably finished with the issue! Thanks for thinking of me, though.

Thought you might want to see this!

Funny how some of your saw this ad campaign as negative while others seem to have been delighted by it.
I think it was done with humor and was effective, perhaps. Obviously many viewers did not want him to stop stripping. WHAT A HOOT!
